Meridian ... ‘A better longitude on life’
From staff reports
The City of Meridian, Lauderdale County, Lauderdale County Tourism and the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation launched a new community brand-print and logo to media representatives Tuesday.
Some examples of the new logo have already been seen in print locally, used by Lauderdale County Tourism on its Meridian Mardi Gras posters for the event scheduled this weekend in downtown Meridian.
Meridian and Lauderdale County are now being identified by the slogan, "A better longitude on life," in reference to the city's location of 88 degrees longitude.
The artwork includes vertical and horizontal lines, symbolizing longitude and latitude lines, but also forming an "X" to mark the spot of Meridian as the strategic center of the South.
"The EMBDC Image task-force branding project began with a team dedicated to sharing the positive story that Meridian and Lauderdale County has to tell," said Laura Davis, chairman of the EMBDC Image Committee in a press release issued Tuesday. "From this mission came the responsibility to create an image campaign for our community."
Meridian, Lauderdale County, the EMBDC and Lauderdale County Tourism contributed financially to hiring the Tennessee-based company Northstar to develop a logo, tag lines, artwork and concepts. Work on identifying the community image campaign has been ongoing for the past year.
