Meridian/Lauderdale County named CVB of The Year


The Meridian/Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau, has been honored with an Outstanding Convention and Visitors Bureau of the Year Award in their budget category at the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism. According to Mississippi Development Authority’s Tourism Director D. Craig Ray, the winners, “…have gone above and beyond to promote Mississippi tourism.”

Executive Director Suzy Johnson and her staff are recognized for the innovative branding campaign that promotes tourism to Meridian/Lauderdale County. The “Reasons” campaign developed for East Mississippi Business Development Corporation, the city of Meridian, Lauderdale County and tourism consists of print ads, billboards, TV and radio commercials, downtown banners, and advertisements on the local transit system.

With the tagline, “A better longitude on life,” it creatively presents Meridian as a fabulous place to live and visit because of its location, health care, history, shopping, entertainment, and transportation. On winning the award Johnson said: “Representing and promoting Meridian/Lauderdale County is an honor in itself but being recognized by our industry and peers is confirmation we are on the right track. We, the Lauderdale County Tourism Commission and Bureau Staff, wish to share this with our community and thank you for giving us the opportunity to share with others the longitude to fun.”

Wade Jones, President of the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation, said that the branding campaign is making a remarkable impression not only on the community, but throughout Mississippi.

"To be awarded this prestigious honor at the Governors Conference attests that there are many reasons why Meridian provides a better longitude on life," Jones said.

The Meridian/Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau works closely with the community to generate more business for the local and state hospitality industry. Its aggressive marketing plan targets group travelers, leisure travelers, meeting planners, travel writers from regional and national media, and sports tournament organizers and their fans.
