Visitors Bureau now named Susquehanna River Valley

May 16--LEWISBURG -- For the past nine months, the region's visitors bureau has worked with a nationally known destination branding company to conduct intensive market research and analysis about who visits the region, why they visit, and how it can more effectively market to these visitors.

As a result of that research, the tourism promotion agency for Snyder, Union, and Northumberland counties has changed its name from the Susquehanna Valley Visitors Bureau to the Susquehanna River Valley. The Susquehanna River Valley's tagline will now be "Every Turn a Treasure."

Andrew Miller, executive director of the visitors bureau, explains, "Your brand is what people say and identify with you when you're not in the room. Branding is the process of changing or refining the message you want to convey to people. We are excited to launch a new chapter in our marketing and feel confident that the name change, new logo and advertising concepts will help us better appeal to our target markets."

Miller continues, "By adding one word to our name, 'river,' we will help visitors and tourists better understand what 'Susquehanna' refers to and also better define ourselves as a destination. Though the Susquehanna River runs throughout the commonwealth, we define the Susquehanna River Valley as the geographic area where the two branches meet. This is something unique only to area and the three counties that border the confluence. The Susquehanna River Valley not only includes the river but all of our scenic valleys and countrysides that make our tri-county region an attractive destination. While we do have a new logo and tagline, this process has been about much more than that. We now clearly know who visits our area, why, and how we can more effectively reach them."

The visitors bureau advertises in local, regional and national publications, and publishes and distributes 110,000 Visitors Guides annually. For more information about the Susquehanna River Valley and to see the new logo, visit VisitCentralPA.org.
