By: Elizabeth Fay WAUSAU (WAOW)--The Marathon County Economic Development Corporation, known as MCDEVCO is on a mission to brand the county. The goal is to discover what the area has to offer then use that information to entice visitors, business owners and families to the county. McDevco hired Nashville-based, North Star Destination Strategies to lead the project. The company boasts community branding experience with more than 100 destinations. The initial phase of the branding program is underway. It includes extensive research to define the Marathon County experience. "Creating the Brand initiative is going to be a significant piece of research that can allow us to understand how we can go out and promote to businesses, people and young professionals," says Economic Development Director, Dave Eckmann. The agency is currently surveying the business community. Project leaders also launched an interactive website for public input. In the coming weeks, they say they'll post a community survey online. North-Star Destination Strategies will then use that information to develop brand concepts and a brand strategy. The final stages of the process focuses on bringing those ideas to life. In November, local marketing agencies are expected to spend 3 to 5 years implementing the plan. For more information, you can check out their website: http://www.brandmarathoncounty.com/
