Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce March Luncheon

Please join the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce at our March Chamber Network Luncheon, Tuesday, March 16, 12 p.m. at the Veteran's Hall, 125 E. F St. Our guest speaker will be Chris Kirk with the City of Tehachapi. Chris will be discussing the Tehachapi Community Branding Program process.

An often neglected responsibility of local governments and leaders is the job of building a reputation for the community that is fair, honest and powerful. This responsibility can be easy to overlook in the daily struggle to provide quality community services in an efficient and effective way. Unfortunately, if an effort is not made to control and promote our region's own positive reputation, a negative one can begin to develop.

To ensure that our reputation continues to be a positive one, the Tehachapi Economic Alliance Members, or TEAM (which consists of the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce, City of Tehachapi, Main Street Tehachapi, Greater Tehachapi Economic Development Council and Tehachapi Unified School District), have partnered together to develop a comprehensive community branding program. Working together with Northstar Destination Strategies, a nationally recognized leader in community branding, the TEAM has embarked on the initial steps of that journey.

In order to honestly brand and market Tehachapi, we must first understand exactly who we are. Over the next few months, the TEAM will be working with Northstar to accomplish that goal. This phase will include a review of all the current marketing and promotions material being used by our community and will also include the use of focus groups, interviews, surveys and other research tools. When all is said and done we hope to have a better understanding of what people inside and outside of the community think about when they hear the word Tehachapi.

This will be invaluable information as we move forward with the branding process because our brand is really what people say about Tehachapi when no one from Tehachapi is around. Understanding these feelings and attitudes will give us a base to build on as we develop an honest message that the entire community can use to promote our wonderful town. We believe that over time this consistent message will increase tourism, reduce retail leakage and help position our community as the premier place to live, work and do business in our region.

The cost is $15 for Chamber Members, $20 for Non-chamber members, which includes lunch. Please make your reservation by calling the Chamber at 661-822-4180. Reservation deadline is Friday, March 12.
