City Inks Deal with Marketing Consultant: Tennessee Firm to Shape New Brand

By: Chuck Williams - Staff Writer

Columbus’ image is about to get a makeover.

The city along with other public institutions and private businesses has hired a Tennessee firm to help the city create a brand the city can use to market itself to industry and tourists.

North Star president Don McEachern, who spoke to a group of business and civic leaders in Columbus last month, said Thursday his company is about to begin the research process that will help the city identify its strengths and weaknesses.

“The research will take three to four months,” McEachern said. “We will be talking to visitors as well as stakeholders. We will be talking to the economic development people on the state level.”

The whole process — research, analysis and brand creation — is expected to take about nine months to complete.
North Star is currently working with five southeastern communities—Charlestown, S.C.; Georgetown, Ky.; Santa Rosa, Fla.; Glasgow, Ky.; and Columbus.
