Branding is what people say about you when you're not around. So, naturally, many in Greeley would like to give people some different words to use in the future.
Enter North Star Destination Strategies, a national consulting firm that has changed many a bad image in its day. Greeley officials will now look to the Nashville-based firm to change the way people think about Greeley, with the idea of bringing in more tourism and business.
"We're a community that's been in an identity crisis for several years," said Vicki Sears, chairwoman of the Greeley Chamber of Commerce board, at a press conference Monday at the chamber, 902 7th Ave.
Officials from the Greeley Chamber of Commerce, the Greeley Convention and Visitor's Bureau and the city of Greeley announced they had hired North Star, which will start work gathering information soon under their first Colorado project.
Sears recognized that a branding campaign wouldn't fix all of Greeley's problems.
"It's a way to build on the positives while working on issues that tend to drag a community down," Sears said.
The process to create a new brand should take about six months, ending with businesses and organizations throughout Greeley having the opportunity to use that brand in individualized marketing and advertising.
