Mesquite Looks for a New City Image Through New City Logo

By Chad Jones - Pegasus News

If there's one thing the city of Mesquite is known for, it's the Mesquite Championship Rodeo. And when I grew up there, it was proclaimed the "Rodeo Capital of Texas" by a few proud older residents (much to the disdain of us kids, who wanted to dispel the notion that Texas high schoolers back-pack their way to class on horseback).

While the City of Mesquite definitely embraces this rural image, the council voted in 2006 to hire North Star Destination Strategies to create a new marketing campaign for the community.

The result was a new logo with the name “Mesquite, Texas” followed by the phrase, “Real. Texas. Flavor.”

If you live in this now savory city, you might have seen this logo on administrative vehicles or buildings. As of today, Mesquite's website is still stuck in 2006 with the turquoise tree thing, but hopefully someone will get to work on that within the next few months.

The photo is a joke, of course, though bottling Mesquite-flavored sauce with the new Mesquite, Texas logo wouldn't be a bad idea (but would probably make the city's current high schoolers want to die).

Nevertheless, kudos to "M-town" on striving to "find itself" in the new year.
