Uvalde CVB Director Gives Update on Branding Project
The branding project, which was approved by the CVB board in July, is intended to help Uvalde market itself as a town and as a community.
“We had the North Star people in here two weeks ago,” said Nelson, speaking to about 25 CVB members at the Uvalde Adult Activity Center Tuesday.
She said the North Star team initially met with motel operators and owners, then with other business people throughout the city. “They asked about visitors to Uvalde and where they're from,” she said.
The team then talked to local residents to get a local perspective on how the town markets itself.
“Early Tuesday morning (Nov. 8), they went to Amber Sky and rubbed elbows with the people there to get coffee shop talk,” said Nelson. “Then they went to the (El Progreso Memorial) library and met with Nancy (Feely).”
She said the team also took some of the tours offered for tourists to get an idea of what visitors could expect to see.
Nelson said the North Star team also did tours of Fort Inge, Southwest Texas Junior College, First Methodist Church and the Adult Activity Center, then had lunch at Market Square.
They also visited some of the local waterways.
“Then they went out on their own to see the town from a visitor's standpoint,” she said.
When they heard about the hunting in the area, she said, “They wanted to see a ranch before they left.”
The North Star team's visit was only the beginning of a 26-week-long project, said Nelson. “It won't be done until May.”
